Well…it’s that time!
Time to clean out your closets & under your bed!
Cleaning is a daunting task. Especially when trying to clean & organize EVERYTHING! But it doesn’t have to be. & it doesn’t have to be done all in one day…unless you can make that happen, more power to ya! I usually try to get everything done in one day, but sometimes that isn’t always the case.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you have roommates or a significant other! In college my roommate & I always used to clean on hungover Sundays & Max always gets motivated to clean once I start going.
Let’s dive, here are my tips for Spring Cleaning:
1. Open all the shades & blinds so that every room is nice & bright. Let your place feel like spring! Water all the house plants, light a candle (I don’t like the smell of cleaning products)…& play some music. Get into cleaning mode!
2. Start with the messiest room in the house/apartment. Ours happens to be the dining room. It’s just where we put everything: the coat rack, our shoes, the cats stuff, etc. Start by finding the proper places for everything that doesn’t have a place or is in the wrong place.
3. Once you’ve started you get on a roll. Go to the kitchen or the next messiest room in your place (if you started in your kitchen). I like to go to the kitchen next because I usually have a sink full of dishes & an empty clean sink makes all the difference. Go through your fridge & pantry & start throwing away expired food. Make room for food you need & try to stop over buying!
4. Stay in all the areas that people see. If you’re following along, next stop living room. Straighten pillows, fold blankets & make sure everything goes in its place.
5. Bathroom. Clean this room second to last because you may need to let cleaning products sit, wet floors dry or rugs/towels to be washed before you can complete this. You don’t want to have to worry about going back or forgetting once you’ve finished. Go through your medicine cabinet & toss any expired medicine. Clean all surface first, then the shower & then the floors! (Open a window & shut the door once the bathroom is done, so no pets get in & get foot prints on the floor)…
6. Now, the bedroom. Make your bed. Once the bed is made you can use it as a platform to fold clothes & start cleaning your closet. Make a clean, donation & season pile for all your clothes & grab the hamper to start doing laundry while you are cleaning the bedroom. While the laundry is going, start putting away clothes into bins or back into the dresser/closet where they belong & bag up all your donations!
7. Spare room/home office. Start with the desk or bed & go from there! Put makeup where it belongs & bills in order. Clean all surfaces!
8. Clean all the windows unless you did that when you opened all the shades & blinds!
9. Vacuum & clean all floors (except the bathroom, which should be done).
10. Poor yourself a glass of wine because you did it!
I hope this helps getting you into spring cleaning mode & making moves!
Happy Spring!
That’s all…xxTay!
