January was a good reading/listening month. I would like to note I listen to majority of the books I “read.” I enjoy reading but I feel so productive when I listen and clean instead of just cleaning or just reading… ya know?
Heart Bones: 5/5 my friend Paige who is an avid reader has been telling me to read this book forever and when I finally did I wish I had read it when she first told me to but also it’s one of those books you want to read for the first time again but can’t…highly recommend. Such a cute story between a family and relationships.
Beautiful World, Where are You: 3/5 I know everyone loved this book but it didn’t really grab my attention like I thought it would. Don’t get me wrong I loved the ending but the whole cat and mouse for YEARS type relationships aren’t my fav. I do like best friends who turn lovers, though LOL and like I’ve said before I love books about friendships. If you enjoy those things too you’ll enjoy this book.
My Body: “The world celebrates and rewards women who are chosen by powerful men.” This book made me really sad. Sad for Emily and sad for women. Although, it is empowering it does make you question the type of power this book represents. The ending was a perfect conclusions to my questions.
Things You Save in a Fire: 5/5 I loved this book. Everything about this book made me love Cassie from start to finish. This was such a deep yet light heartfelt book, even the dark parts…
Survive the Night: 4/5 wow I did not see that ending coming. There were so many twists and my heart was beating the entire time. Halfway through the book I could not put it down until I finished it. If you like thrillers you’ll enjoy this book.
Finlay Donovan is Killing It: 4/5 A funny mystery I could see becoming a movie starring Sandra Bolock. Everything seems to accidentally fall into place or so it seems LOL I enjoyed the unraveling of this story, the friendship that came from it and the love triangle.
How Lucky: 5/5 woah…what a refreshing book. Everything from the main character, Daniel, and his disability to the entire plot of the book was so different than anything I’ve ever read. I especially loved the friendship between him and Travis because if you’ve been reading my blog you know I love books with a deep friendship!
The Girls I’ve Been: 4/5 Such a good book. Nothing like anything I’ve read before but I really liked it. The story was very intense but also very heart felt and you know I love a story about friendship. I would describe this book as a suspense and rom-com novel if that’s a genre?
The Girl He Used to Know: 5/5 I thought I was gonna cry at least three different times while reading this book. I fell in love with every character in this book and couldn’t believe the ending. 10/10 recommend!
The Midnight Library: 5/5 I love books that make you think but also ones with a message. Everyone lives with shoulda coulda wouldas, but what if you could go see what would happen with every path you could have taken? This book was such a good story about a woman who was able to see those paths. After finishing this book I couldn’t stop thinking and one thought was: it’s never too late to live the life you want to live.
The Layover: 5/5 I loved this book, it was so cute. The perfect love hate rom-com with a great adventure!
The Hunting Wives: 4/5 What a twisted book. I thought the story was great and so shocked I did not see that ending coming! However, I couldn’t stand the main character, Sophie. I thought she was weak and naive, like a 13 year old trying to fit in with the popular girls and ended up getting in way over her head.
The Happy Ever After Playlist: 5/5 idk why this was on my tbr for so long, I wanted to finish it in one night but my eyes wouldn’t stay open! If I’m being honest though, the opening almost turned me right off because it was so outrageous but it really made the entire book and love story!
How to Walk Away: 5/5 well this one really started with a bang or err a crash… I really love this author now that I’ve read a second book of hers. You think her books are deep to start and then you get sucked into the undertow. I love that her books are about family with a touch of rom-com. Best take away: “When you don’t know what to do for yourself, do something for someone else.”
It Ends With Us: 5/5 this is the second Colleen Hoover book I’ve read and I have a feeling they’re all extremely deep and moving. I loved the characters, even the villain of this book and was so sad for the main character. I loved this book because I felt like I was Lily when making her decision (even though I’ve never been in a situation like hers) and felt just as torn as she did. Trigger warning: domestic violence
The Unhoneymooners: 4/5 Your typical rom-com. Fake dating. Enemies turned lovers. Unlikely coincidences/circumstances. But with an unexpected twist at the end which makes me keep reading rom-come because although they are the same they are not. Why else would there be a successful hallmark channel??
Someone’s Daughter: Not what I expected and definitely exceeded my expectations. Anyone who has a different upbringing than I did amazes me. I love reading about different lifestyles and cultures etc. Although, her story made me sad it also max me happy for her to grow into the person she did. I loved the author and how she wrote it.
People Like Her: 4/5 Great page turner! I loved the three different point of views and the story being told. If you like a suspense books with I excepted twists, you will love this book.
The Roommate: 4/5 this book was so cute! I loved the opposites attract storyline and everything that came with it. Very light hearted rom-com to wrap up the month of January.
Love and Other Words: 5/5 I loved this book and of course I thought I was leaving January on a light hearted note and squeezed in one more book that cancelled that out.
Let me know if you have any recommendations in the comments or if you’ve read any of these books, what are your thought?!
That’s all…xoxoTay!
